Pita Way has plans to bring its Mediterranean fare to Woodhaven, according to a recent lease agreement.

The Clarkston-based shawarma chain inked a deal last month to lease 1,600 square feet of space at 20330 West Road in the Park Promenade, a multi-tenant retail development anchored by the Meijer grocery store.

Pita Way currently has 20 locations open in Michigan along with a restaurant in Tennessee and another located in Ohio.

The Woodhaven take-out is one of 11 Pita Ways underway statewide. New outposts are coming soon to Dewitt, East Lansing, Novi, Ann Arbor and Warren, according to the chain’s website.

West Bloomfield entrepreneur Brandon Bahoura founded the chain in 2010, serving Iraqi dishes inspired by the family meals he enjoyed growing up in an immigrant household.

He crafted the menu at Pita Way with help from a pair of Middle Eastern master chefs. The lineup of entrees includes shawarmas, kaftas, hummus to go along with bowls and wraps, sandweeches and “quesopitas.”

The Woodhaven Pita Way is sited next door to a Chick-fil-A in the shopping plaza. There was no timetable for the opening. Bahoura wasn’t immediately available as of press time.
