The Troy shop is owned and operated by franchise owner Matthew Caplan. With two other existing shops in Oakland County, Bloomfield Hills and Rochester Hills, Caplan is a multi-unit operator who’s quickly grown a passion for the superfruit bowl concept and is expanding his Playa Bowls footprint to locals all around Southeast Michigan.

“We are thrilled to be expanding the Playa Bowls franchise in our home state of Michigan. Playa Bowls brings a fresh, healthy and delicious option to the vibrant Troy community, catering to the active and health-conscious lifestyles of its residents,” said Caplan in a statement. “We are excited to provide a refreshing and convenient experience for all ages and can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have on the community.”

Guests at Playa Bowls can pick from a menu of creative bowls or customize their own, choosing from a variety of proprietary blends and bases made with superfoods including acai, pitaya, chia pudding, coconut, kale, banana, oatmeal, and brand-new Mango. Layering on toppings including fresh fruit, seeds, nuts, granola, dried berries, nut butters and Nutella. The superfruit bowl shop also offers a selection of fresh, made to order juices, smoothies, cold brew and more. Using plant-based milks, Playa Bowls can be made Vegan, Gluten Free, easily adapted to integrate into Whole 30, Keto, and Paleo diets, and can be prepared to accommodate almost any food allergy.

Founded by surfers Abby Taylor & Rob Giuliani, Playa Bowls was born out of the desire to recreate the delicious, refreshing, healthy versions of acai and pitaya bowls the pair encountered on various surf trips to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, California, and Hawaii. At each beach, the duo discovered new and unique twists on this post-surf treat and came home wanting more. The pair set up a blender and a folding table on the boardwalk in their hometown of Belmar, New Jersey and Playa Bowls was born. Eight years, thousands of employees, and hundreds of thousands of bowls later, Playa Bowls continues to offer superfruit bowls with a mission to lead communities in healthy, sustainable living.

The new shop will be open Sunday through Thursday from 8am-8pm, and will stay open until 9:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
