Having been quietly closed since last March, the former Mama Mia’s Pizzeria has reopened under new ownership with a revamped interior and menu. Located at 218 W Savidge St, the eatery is renamed Mia’s Village Eats with a few exciting changes from local food truck visionaries Brad and Alex Ashcraft. The news of the reopening was first seen on MLive.
Mia’s was a staple that held many valuable memories for locals, including the new owners. The little joint along the Lakeshore has brought tasty pizzas and subs to the communities for over two decades since it opened its doors in 1968. The eatery was family-owned by the Bernards since 1993 and is now ready to enter a fresh chapter with the new owners.
The genius mind behind beloved local food truck Smoke N Ash, the Ashcrafts have every intention to continue Mia’s legacy with some creative touches and modernizations. Remodelings mainly focused on bringing the establishment up-to-date with kitchen equipment and accessibility requirements along with some visual improvements, according to the MLive coverage.
As for the menu, most of Mia’s classics will stay, with some new changes. The Ashcrafts told What Now Detroit that they’ve added some fan favorites from their food truck menu, such as gyros, smoked wings, and BBQ-inspired subs and pizzas. There will also be some healthy options, including “four salads and gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options.” When asked to choose a must-try item from the additions, the Ashcrafts recommended the “Gettin Piggy With It,” made with smoked garlic Parmesan sauce, pork belly, pickled onion, pickles, dill and house maple bbq.
There may have been no better people to inherit Mia’s legacy as the new owners had their own strong personal ties to the original eatery. “Spring Lake is a small town. We all grew up together. Our parents were friends. We played sports with the kids and as adults, we’ve remained friends,” said the Ashcrafts. “We can’t wait to serve you and show you our updated space! We have kept the same community-centered hometown feel, with more options for the community to enjoy! We have poured our heart and soul into Mia’s we are so excited to share it with everyone!”
While focusing on this exciting new adventure, Smoke N Ash’s operations will continue. “Our food truck will still be operating this summer. We have changed it up a bit and will be doing mostly private events. We hope by the summer of 2025 we will be able to be back at public events,” the Ashcrafts told What Now Detroit.
