The new Big Rock Italian Chophouse Restaurant proposed by Cameron Mitchell Restaurants has received approval from the Birmingham City Commission this April for a special land use permit. The concept was proposed in 2023 and has since been under development.
“Located at 245 S. Eton Street in Birmingham in the former Grand Trunk Western Railroad Depot, Big Rock Italian Chophouse is scheduled to open in the summer of 2024. The project is a joint venture with Cameron Mitchell Restaurants and a number of local investor partners, including Tom Celani and Dario Bergamo,” the restaurant group stated in the original press release published last year.
Permitting materials show that design and engineering is led by Illinois-based Knauer Inc. Plans show two dining areas with a total of 131 seats, a patio with 46 seats, two private dining rooms with a total of 66 seats, a 14-seat bar, and an additional bar seating area with hightops with approximately 24 seats. There will also be outside seating around the fire pit, a tunnel lounge, and a clubroom-style mezz lounge for the cigar lovers.

It is unclear if the restaurant is still anticipated to open this summer.
