E & G Connection LLC plans to make modifications to the existing establishment, including changes to the building’s facade and a reduced capacity from 110 to 67 seatings in the 11,588-square-foot restaurant, which would allow more flexibility and breathing room for the customers and the staff both. The adjoining outdoor patio will hold 48 seats. Glass doors will also be added to the establishment.

While the decision may leave many long-time Black Cat patrons feeling sentimental, the group is hopeful for the restaurant’s future. Managing partner, Arnulfo Ramirez, is a seasoned Mexican restaurant operator. Ramirez opened the first Los Tres Amigos restaurant in Jackson, MI in 2004 and soon expanded the chain to 15 total locations throughout Michigan, including two in Lansing and one in East Lansing.

The new concept, Los Tres Mex Grill, will continue to offer authentic Mexican food in a family-friendly setting. The restaurant will also serve beer, wine, and mixed drinks, according to city records. The site at 115 Albert St is currently under construction and the new restaurant is anticipated to open by the end of the year.

By the time of this coverage, Ramirez had not responded to What Now Detroit‘s request for comments.
