The vacant office building currently occupying the site will be demolished to make way for a new 2,700-square-foot Panda Express restaurant with a drive-through and 35 parking spaces. The site sits between Advia Credit Union and Little Caesars Pizza. A site-plan review has been scheduled on Wednesday, Aug 17.

“This is an exciting project in the Westwood neighborhood and will be a great addition to the dining options Kalamazoo has to offer,” city planner Emily Szymanski told MLive.

According to the planning commission, the permitting stage can take as long as six months to complete before construction can begin. There is no estimated project timeframe available in the application. Public records indicate a Nevada-based commercial real estate company had recently purchased the property on Aug. 8. The company appears to be associated with Panda Restaurant Group, according to MLive.

Panda Express operates 48 locations in Michigan, including one at 2750 Preyde Blvd in Lansing that had just opened a few months ago. Panda Express currently does not offer franchising opportunities, and all locations in the United States are corporate-owned. A representative from the Panda Express corporation was not available for immediate comments.
