The same franchisee who operated Biggby Coffee at 9 Mile and Middletbelt Road is working on opening a Biggby Coffee at 12 Mile and Middlebelt at 27604 Middlebelt Rd. RxOptical previously occupied the space.
The Farmington Hills Planning Commission reviewed the site plans on January 18th. Planning documents indicate a rezoning request to “convert existing northerly tenant space in existing southerly outlot building to drive-in restaurant in OS-1, Office Service zoning district.” Benedetto Tiseo, owner of Tiseo Architects, the company leading the new Bigby’s construction, submitted the request.
Development plans were originally submitted and received approval last April. Masroor Ahmed, the franchisee, said that he anticipated at least half of the business to be drive-through businesses and cited the lack of a drive-in option as why he’d decided to close the 9 Miles and Middlebelt Road coffee shop. Since the previous shop is closed, the new location will remain the only Farmington Hills Biggby location.
The planning commission and the city is looking forward to having a Biggby Coffee in the area. “I would like to see an outdoor seating area … and I would like to see it be for more than just the Biggby,” Mayor Vicki Barnett said.
The upcoming Farmington Hills location is marked as “coming soon” on the chain’s website. Ahmed told What Now Detroit that no opening date has been planned, although they expect the construction to take at least three months or so once they receive permits.
