Located in downtown Detroit near Campus Martius, Cosm Detroit will be part of the long-term revitalization of downtown Detroit spurred by real estate firm Bedrock, according to an announcement made by the company. Cosm’s fourth venue in Detroit will expand on the foundational design of its first three venues and ensure its values and iconic features are embodied throughout while still incorporating unique characteristics that reflect Detroit’s history, revival, and overall community.
Since opening its first two venues in Los Angeles (Hollywood Park) and Dallas (Grandscape) and announcing its third venue location in Atlanta (Centennial Yards), Cosm has ushered in a completely new way for fans to experience live sports, immersive art, and experiential entertainment through Shared Reality. This experience bridges the virtual and physical worlds by merging state-of-the-art visuals with the crowd’s energy, world-class hospitality, and elevated food and beverage service.
“I can’t think of a better place than the Detroit for our 4th Venue,” Jeb Terry, Cosm’s President and CEO, said in a news release. “Detroit embodies the right mix of sports fandom, enterprising spirit, and energy, and we are honored to be part of the downtown revitalization that Dan Gilbert and his team are driving. Cosm Detroit will be the always-on heartbeat of downtown, offering unparalleled sports and entertainment experiences for Detroiters to share together, honoring the great history of the city while celebrating Detroit today and its incredibly bright future.”
For the development of its fourth venue, Cosm has hired ROSSETTI, a local multidisciplinary architecture firm with roots in Detroit. Like its other venues, Cosm Detroit will feature its world-class design and proprietary technology. It includes a 26.6m 12K LED dome and an adjacent high-resolution LED wall similar to the 150-foot-long display at the Cosm in Hollywood Park.
“ROSSETTI is absolutely thrilled to be working with two such entrepreneurial enterprises as Cosm and Bedrock in our hometown,” Matthew Rossetti, President and CEO at ROSSETTI, said in a news release. “Cosm’s approach to next-gen entertainment combined with Bedrock’s development prowess will ensure the success of Cosm in Detroit.”
Programming at Cosm Detroit will include a slate of live sports offerings, which continues to expand through official partnerships with UFC, the NBA, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, FOX Sports, ESPN, the NFL, and more, for fans to experience their favorite sports, teams, and events from across the world in Shared Reality.
In addition to live sports, Cosm’s programming will also highlight Cirque du Soleil’s timeless production “O” and immersive art experiences from members of the Cosm Studios Creator Program, including award-winning new media artist Nancy Baker Cahill; filmmaker, director, and co-founder of Planetary Collective Guy Reid; and acclaimed composer and new media artist Ricardo Romaneiro, with additional creators and studios to join the program in the future.
Cosm’s timeline for its Detroit venue and a schedule of events upon its opening will be shared later.
