The vacant basement will serve as a full-service bar once the restaurant is fully up and running in the next few weeks. According to Crain’s, the basement bar might be another Mash location. Mash is a bourbon-centric concept with locations currently in Ann Arbor, East Lansing, and Ypsilanti. The bar’s website lists the Grand Rapids location as upcoming, although the plans have not been finalized.
Dave Crawford, CEO of Mission Restaurant Group, told Crain’s that the bar could also potentially be a sports bar concept. .“We’re trying to find our way in a different footprint to get ready for what might happen in, say, three years, with the soccer stadium and a new amphitheater,” Crawford told Crian’s. “We’re excited about that. We’re just positioning ourselves, hopefully, in the right way before that gets built out.”
The Group is accepting bids from companies to develop the basement bar and hopes to open the space by October. In the meantime, Pide & Stick also has plans to begin serving Yemenis and Turkish coffee and teas, along with pastries. The company also plans to open more Pide & Stick locations in Ann Arbor, Traverse City and Detroit before the year ends.
