A Lakeshore restaurant that opened this past May is already moving forward into its next stage. Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque, which took over the former Old Boys’ Brewhouse space at 971 W. Savidge St. in Spring Lake, has filed for a brewpub license and anticipates to serve its original craft beer by next summer. This news was first seen in MLive.

Co-owners Judy and Rolf Hissom told MLive that the building came with all the old brewing equipment, including six large brewing tanks, when they purchased the property. With equipment and some staff members being experienced, brewers, the restaurant is on a steady track to entering the craft beer business.
“It’s all fitted here and all ready to go,” Judy Hissom told MLive. “We just need to get all the permitting and everything in place so we can begin brewing our own beer.”
The beer will only be served at the restaurant onsite without any plans for packaging or distribution.
Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque is created by trusted physician Rolf Hissom with over 25 years of practicing experience in Muskegon and Spring Lake. The Hissoms opened the flagship Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque location in Muskegon last February. The Spring Lake location is the second location of the same concept.
